Avon Global Believe Fund Doubles to $2 Million
Avon’s Pioneering Effort to End Domestic Violence Expands Reach
New York, NY -- March 29, 2011 -- The Avon Global Believe Fund has doubled in size from $1 Million to $2 Million through the generosity of Avon Chairman & CEO Andrea Jung, who made the decision to commit personal funds to match the Global Believe Fund in honor of Avon’s 125th Anniversary.
The Global Believe Fund was established earlier this year in honor of Avon’s 125th Anniversary with the goal to make grants to outstanding nonprofit organizations that provide critical life-saving services to victims of domestic violence and their families. The fund will continue to make grants in the 16 cities worldwide that host the Avon Believe World Tour this year. Jung’s donation will expand the Fund’s impact by increasing support for the global services offered by domestic violence shelters and programs, including an expansion of grants to shelters in more Avon markets worldwide.
“In honor of the Company’s 125th Anniversary, I am happy to match the funding for the Avon Global Believe Fund. The Fund aims to expand the provision of life-saving services to victims of domestic violence and their families, and to draw attention to the alarming lack of adequate services for victims of domestic violence on a global scale,” said Andrea Jung, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Avon Products, Inc. “Avon is the company for women and plays a leadership role in helping to improve women’s lives. I have personally been so moved by the conversations I have had with the Avon Believe Fund recipients to-date, that I felt inspired to help further this important work.”
“We are honored at the Avon Foundation for Women by Andrea’s generous gift, which doubles the Avon Believe Fund and multiplies its impact by providing critical life-saving services to women in many more cities around the world,” said Carol Kurzig, President, Avon Foundation for Women. “Andrea’s personal commitment in Avon’s milestone 125th year, is a testament to her belief in our Foundation’s mission to improve the lives of women globally, and it will help ensure that our work continues, grows, and is able to change – and save – more lives.”
As part of the Avon Global Believe Fund, the Avon Foundation for Women is partnering with the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) to identify and fund an international network of outstanding nonprofit organizations to help them provide critical life-saving services for victims of domestic violence and their families. This global effort also aims to draw attention to the alarming lack of adequate services for women and children who are victims of domestic violence in communities everywhere. Avon Global Believe Fund grants awarded to date include $60,000 grants each to Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) in Atlanta, GA, Safe Haven of Tarrant County in Ft. Worth, TX, and Haven Hills in Canoga Park, CA.
The Avon Foundation for Women’s Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program supports domestic violence awareness, education and prevention programs, as well as direct services for victims and their families. Through the end of 2010 in the United States, the Avon Foundation has donated more than $23 million to support awareness, education, direct service and prevention programs aimed at reducing domestic violence.
The $2 million Avon Global Believe Fund is in addition to the company’s previously announced financial donations to other major partners in global efforts to stop violence against women including: the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women; Vital Voices and the US State Department to establish the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Women; and Cornell University Law School for the creation of the Avon Global Center for Women and Justice.
