Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Continues 10th Birthday Season in Rocky Mountains on June 23-24

Thousands of Participants from Colorado and Across the U.S. are “In It to End It” in Annual Weekend Fundraising Event to Support Breast Cancer Cause

Breckenridge, CO, May 24, 2012 – The 2012 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series kicks off its eighth year in the Rocky Mountains on June 23-24. The Avon Walk series, which honors its 10th birthday in 2012, brings together thousands of participants – including breast cancer survivors – who are dedicated to raising life-saving funds for the breast cancer cause. Last year’s Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Rocky Mountains drew more than 900 participants from 39 states and Washington, D.C, including 111 breast cancer survivors, who raised more than $1.9 million to advance access to care and fund research into preventing and finding a cure for breast cancer.

The Avon Walks offer participants a choice of walking a marathon (26.2 miles) or a marathon-and-a-half (39.3 miles) over a weekend. Walkers raise a minimum of $1,800 to participate and the Avon Foundation for Women distributes the funds raised to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations. The Avon Foundation has awarded more than $11.6 million to organizations in Colorado including the University of Colorado, Denver Health & Hospital Corp. and The Children’s Treehouse Foundation.

Whether participants are taking part in the Avon Walk for a personal reason or to help support the breast cancer cause, they all have a personal story to tell. Jennifer Tucker, a mother of two young children from Littleton, Colorado, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38. Now a survivor, Jennifer will be participating in her second Avon Walk Rocky Mountains to help support others with the breast cancer disease. Other participants include Brooke Hupp of Loveland, CO, who is a breast cancer survivor and participating in her third Rocky Mountain walk, and Nancy Partridge of Denver, CO, a breast cancer survivor who is participating in her eighth Rocky Mountain event.
