The Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence
The Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence, a collaboration among the U.S. Department of State, Vital Voices Global Partnership, Avon Products, Inc. and Avon Foundation for Women. Each Justice Institute is a multi-day interactive training program, bringing together those who work closely with domestic violence victims: judges, court officers, prosecutors, police officers, and representatives of government agencies and non-governmental organizations.
The goal of each Institute is to improve victim protection efforts and the criminal justice response to domestic violence through a trauma-informed approach. The Justice Institute is designed to ensure that in-country existing domestic violence and sexual assault laws better protect victims of domestic and gender violence, from a trauma-informed lens.
Avon and the Avon Foundation for Women have already funded the following Institutes:
- 2014: Guadalajara Mexico and Katmandu Nepal
- 2015: São Paulo Brazil; Delhi India; and, Johannesburg South Africa
- 2016: Tucumán Argentina; Bogotá Colombia; Mumbai India; Manila Philippines; and, Pretoria South Africa
- 2017: Toluca Mexico; Brasilia, São Paulo and Fortaleza Brazil; Santiago Chile; Bucharest Romania; and, Medellin Colombia
- 2018: Belfast Northern Ireland; more to come later this year.
In March 2017, in honor of International Women’s Day, the Avon Foundation for Women announced $1 Million in new funding for 10 new Justice Institutes in 2017 and 2018.
Avon Walk Around the World To End Breast Cancer
The Avon Foundation for Women launched Avon Walk Around the World To End Breast Cancer in 2005. This worldwide series of events brings grassroots activism to a global scale by raising awareness and helping to provide more access to care while working to eradicate the disease. Events worldwide have included walks, runs, concerts, conferences and educational seminars. They have taken place in hundreds of locations, from Guatemala City to Kuala Lumpur to Prague, as well as historic sites such as the Great Wall of China, the Kremlin and in the central plaza of Mexico City.
Today, this global series of events mobilizes over a quarter of a million people each year.
Avon Foundation for Women Affiliate Partners
Avon Institute (Brazil)
Launched in 2003, the Avon Institute develops programs that promote the health and well-being of women in Brazil. In particular, the Institute focuses on the early detection of breast cancer and domestic violence awareness so that women can lead healthier, better lives. The Avon Institute has donated more than $70 million for 180 projects and actions related to these core causes. To support this important work, the Avon Institute raises funds through the sale of special cause products.
Avon Foundation for the Woman (Argentina)
The Avon Foundation for Women in Argentina debuted in 1999. Its mission is to promote women’s rights and support programs to improve the physical and emotional well-being of women in Argentina. The organization focuses its efforts on promoting health through the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, and eradicating domestic violence through the Avon Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program.

Since 2008, the Avon Foundation has also supported educational campaigns for domestic violence awareness, including “Be There,” a series of short films launched during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, which explains the different ways to assist victims.
Avon Foundation for the Woman (Colombia)
Public education has been a key focus for the Avon Foundation for Women in Colombia, having distributed more than 1.5 million breast self-exam kits since the program launch. Additionally, the Avon Foundation mobilizes over 8,000 participants each year at their Avon Walk Around the World events, raising significant awareness for the cause.
